Introduction: This Award offers the opportunity for individual Trainers to gain NASDU accreditation as an acknowledgement of their existing training skills. Many Trainers whilst competent are often lacking in formal recognised training qualifications acceptable within both the learning and skills sector and the security industry.
The role of an Assistant Trainer is to provide an additional resource for a NASDU Approved Instructor/Trainer and to assist that Approved Instructor/Trainer in providing learners with basic skills, knowledge and understanding required to ensure that learners can provide a professional level of service as a Security Dog Handler.
For Whom Suitable:
Anyone who is currently working or considering working in the security dog training sector.
Anyone who is working towards an Award in Preparing to Teach in the Life Long Learning Sector (PTLLS).
As many applicants will be working towards becoming a NASDU Approved Instructor/ Trainer attention is drawn to the requirements of that Award.
Awarding Body:
The Award of Assistance Trainer will be certificated by NASDU
Prior Learning:
Assistant Trainer must be able to demonstrate not only a desire to teach
but that they have the basic skills, knowledge and understanding of the principals
of teaching and instruction.
Assistant Trainers must demonstrate sector competence, in that they have the
necessary experience, knowledge and understanding of the sector in which they wish
to provide training.
Assistant Trainers must demonstrate documented occupational experience
as a Security Dog Handler, relevant to the sector in which they wish to provide training
(NB: Approved Instructors/Trainers are required to demonstrate 3 years in last 10)
Assessment:
Application to become an Assistant Trainer will be by the submission of the applicants CV which shall be moderated/verified by the NASDU Training Committee/Inspectorate.
Applicants should ensure full details of any previous training both formal and informal are included together with all relevant experience.
Applicants should ensure they have written confirmation from the Approved NASDU Instructor/Trainer with whom they wish to be affiliated to.
Assistant Trainers will be required to be affiliated to a NASDU Approved Instructor/Trainer, it will be that Instructor/Trainers responsibility to ensure that by assessment of Assistant Trainers they meet the requirements of the NASDU Code of Practice for Instructors/Trainers and they have available to them appropriate resources if different from the NASDU Approved Instructor/Trainers.
Progression:
Assistant Trainers will gain confidence and experience to progress to the NASDU Approved Instructor/Trainer Award together with formal qualifications in the learning and skills sector.
Activities:
Assistant Trainers will be utilised by NASDU Approved Instructors/Trainers to assist in the delivery of a variety of training programmes.
Assistant Trainers could be utilised by Companies to deliver refresher training. (Whilst Assistant Trainers are there to assist NASDU Approved Instructors/Trainers, Companies when using an external Trainer may employ the Assistant Trainer as a direct employee of their Company).
Assistant Trainers could be utilised by individuals to deliver refresher training.
Assistant Trainers could be able to deliver underpinning knowledge but will not be able to deliver an initial training programme (although they can participate in the training under supervision with a NASDU Approved Instructor/Trainer).
Assistant Trainers are not be qualified to carry out final assessments; this is the role of the NASDU Approved Instructor/Trainer who will ultimately sign off a learner as having been assessed as competent, although Assistant Trainers can participate in the assessment process.
Assistant Trainers will be required to maintain appropriate training records that should be signed off by a NASDU Approved Instructor/Trainer.

Membership will run concurrently annually with the Approved Trainers Membership
