K9 Protection Ltd are looking for 2 dog handlers (one days, one nights) to join our security team on a site in Cardiff CF3 on a short term basis:

Dates: 22nd December 2017 – January 8th 2018
Shifts: TBC – 12 hour pattern which suits both handlers

Payment Details: no later than 30 days from date of invoice

• Level and calm dog – focus on intruder detection and handler protection over noise creation
• Suitable vehicle
• Suitable insurance (We can consider creating a PAYE role with a rate to reflect this, and allow handlers on to our insurance)
• Level 2 GP security handler qualification
• Minimum of a Security Guard SIA licence
• An attitude to work well with others, stay on post when required, and act as part of a team to proactively stop intrusions to the site
• We’re looking for a dog handler, not a box-set cavalier – if the presence of good Wi-Fi for streaming is more important to you than the pat on the back for successfully helping to make the site zero loss, then this is not the right task for you

Quirks of working with K9 Protection:

• We run a balanced team with no place for egos and hissy fits, and as such everyone has an input, and the TL will take this in to account when decision making
• We are looking for handlers who are able to state their availability for the task in advance and stick to it
• If you don’t clean up after your dog, we will deduct £5 for each deposit from your final invoice, which will be donated to one of the local charities we support
• There is electricity, water, and heat on site, Radios will be provided, as will a site mobile phone to share information with our patrol management server and other local sites
• We will pay as quickly as is possible. As soon as your invoice is in, the 30 day timer starts. We will try and pay sooner, but never later than 30 days

Task details:

K9 Protection Ltd have been tasked to protect an educational establishment for the phase between handover from the contractor, and move-in from the faculty. During this time, the building will be under threat due to the amount of equipment being loaded in and transferred from the other sites. The dog team will be responsible for the part of the perimeter where the sports fields back on to a local estate, whilst the main building will be guarded by foot patrols and electronic countermeasures.

If you are interested in the task, please email with a summary of your experience and any questions you may have. We’ll get back to you within 24 hours.

At this time, we’re only interested in hearing from dog handlers in relation to this specific task. Subcontract companies need not apply (posted 22/11/2017)

British Army Dog Handlers and their canine companions deploy in support of military operations all over the world. They can be found protecting bases from intruders, searching for hidden weapons, and on patrol with the wider army. It’s a vital capability that protects servicemen and civilians from harm. The 1st Military Working Dog Regiment (1MWD) is recruiting reserve dog handlers to help deliver it.

You won’t need any formal qualifications – just a willingness to learn and a high level of commitment. When you join the Army Reserve you’ll start by learning essential soldiering skills, like weapons handling and outdoor survival. Then you’ll move on to your specialist training, learning about everything from veterinary care to patrolling skills over a two-week residential course and like all soldiers in the Army Reserve, you’ll be paid for the time you spend in training. Working dogs are important military assets, but they’re also intelligent and sociable creatures, and when you’re on duty it will be up to you to make sure they perform to their full potential.

When you join the regiment you’ll handle a protection dog during training weekends and annual training camps, and you may have the chance to deploy overseas and the UK. You can then go on to specialise in detecting explosives. Because 1MWD is a mixed regular and reserve unit, you’ll work closely with both full-time and part-time colleagues, as well as the canines in your care. Whatever you do, your reserve training and service will be flexible enough to fit around your other commitments, and will give you skills and experiences that will be hugely valuable in civilian life.

Our next deadline for applications is the 31st of January 2017, with further opportunities ongoing throughout the year (updated 02/02/2017).

Medical Detection Dogs trains dogs to detect the odour of human disease. It is at the forefront of the research into the fight against cancer and helping people with life-threatening diseases.

We are looking to recruit Labradors, Springer Spaniels, Working Cocker Spaniels, Border Collie, Pointers and HPR or crosses of either aged between 10mth and 2½ years (Ideally 1 year to 1½ years) to work within our Bio-detection department on already new and already established projects.

Our dogs need to enjoy problem solving tasks and be keen to work with a focused attitude; a high enjoyment in the use of their nose is a must. They must be fit, healthy with an inquisitive nature and confident meeting strangers. Our dogs train as part of a search team so they will need to enjoy the company of other dogs.

All of our Bio-detection Dogs live in homes as part of a caring family and lead normal happy lives as pet dogs when not at the centre training for this ground breaking work.

We are also interested in younger recruits (8wks – 10mths). These capable canines will initially enter into the Medical Alert Assistance Dog puppy program.
